JOAQUIN MARTINEZ de ARRARAS, M.D., FACC

Joaquin Martinez de Arraras, M.D., FACC, received his
undergraduate degree from Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain and his Medical Degree
from the University of Navarra Medical School in Pamplona, Spain. While attending the
University of Navarra Medical School, he completed a Research Fellowship in Children's
Exercise Physiology. Dr. Martinez completed his Internship and Residency in Internal
Medicine at Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. A Residency in Clinical
Cardiology and Fellowship in lnterventional Cardiology were completed at Hospital of Saint
Raphael in New Haven, Connecticut.
Dr. Martinez is a Diplomate of the American Board of
Internal Medicine, a Diplomate of the American Board of Cardiovascular Disease, and a
Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He is a member of the American Medical
Association, Texas Medical Association, and the Potter-Randall County Medical Society.
Dr. Martinez co-founded Amarillo Heart Group in 1992
where he currently serves as Vice President and practices lnterventional Cardiology. Dr.
Martinez is Medical Director of Coronary Care at Baptist St. Anthony's Health System,
serves on the Credentials Committee at Northwest Texas Hospital, and is a member of the
Physician Advisory Committee for The Prudential Health Plan of Amarillo.
Dr. Martinez was the first to perform several
procedures in Amarillo. These include: Directional Coronary Atherectomy-simple and complex
lesions; Transluminal Extraction Atherectomy-Native Arteries and Grafts; Percutaneous
Transluminal Rotational Atherectomy; and Diagnostic Intravascular Ultrasound.
Other skills include: Stent Placement; Percutaneous
Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty-simple and complex lesions (including the use of
Femoral-Femoral bypass support); Diagnostic Right and Left Cardiac Catheterization;
Exercise Stress Testing; Two-dimensional Doppler Echocardiography; Temporary and Permanent
Pacemaker Implantation; lntra-Aortic Balloon Counterpulsation Insertion and Removal; Acute
Post-Bypass Care; Bilingual-Spanish/English.
