PRAKASH K. DESAI, M.D.

Dr. Prakash K. Desai, M.D. practices Invasive
Cardiology, Electrophysiology and Pacing at Amarillo Heart Group. He
established the Electrophysiology Lab at Baptist-St. Anthony’s Health System
where he has served as Chief of Cardiology. He also runs the Pacemaker and
Defibrillator Clinic and arrhythmia service at Amarillo Heart Group.
Dr. Desai is a Diplomate of the American Board of
Cardiovascular Disease and Diplomate of the American Board of Internal
Medicine. He is a member of the Potter-Randall County Medical Society, Texas
Medical Association, American Medical Association, American College of
Cardiology, and the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology (NASPE).
He has received certification in the FLEX examination, Federation Licensing
Examination, and the Standard ECFMG.
Involved in numerous research studies, Dr. Desai has
had reports and abstracts appear in publications including "PACE",
"International Journal of Chronobiology", and "American Heart Association".
Dr. Desai is involved with a number of device clinical trials including
Biventricular ICD and Atrial Fibrillation Device.
Dr. Desai received his pre-medical degree from St.
Xavier’s College in Ahmedabad, India. He received an M.B.; B.S. from B.J.
Medical College, Gujarat University in Ahmedabad, India. He completed his
Residency in Internal Medicine at Bergan Pines County Hospital, affiliated
with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). Dr.
Desai complete his Fellowship in Cardiology at the Metropolitan Hospital in
New York which is affiliated with New York Medical College and Westchester
County Medical Center in Valhalla, New York. His Fellowship in
Electrophysiology and Pacing was completed at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital,
Tufts University, Boston, Massachusetts.
Special skills include: Electrophysiology Studies
and Ablations; Arrhythmia Management, Temporary and Permanent Pacemaker
Implantation; Defibrillator Implantation, Tilt Table Tests; Syncope
Evaluations; Diagnostic Cardiac Catheterization; Cardioversion; Exercise
Stress Testing; Two-dimensional Doppler Echocardiography.
